Police Identify Man Found Submerged Near Christiansted Boardwalk

Police identified the man found fully submerged near Rum Runners on the Christiansted Boardwalk as 55-year-old Barnet Valarie after a concerned citizen alerted 911 on April 13. Investigators said preliminary findings do not indicate foul play.

ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has identified the man found fully submerged in the water near Rum Runners on the Christiansted Boardwalk as 55-year-old Barnet Valarie.

According to police, a concerned citizen contacted the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center on Monday, April 13 at about 9:20 a.m. to report that the body of a male was fully submerged under water at the Christiansted Boardwalk near Rum Runners.

Emergency Medical Technicians confirmed that the individual showed no signs of life. Police later identified the man as Valarie.

VIPD said a preliminary investigation does not show any foul play. The cause of death is pending the findings of the medical examiner.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau continues to investigate the matter and is urging anyone with information to contact 911, the Major Crimes Unit at 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
