ST. THOMAS — A 15-year-old boy died Friday after being shot multiple times in the area of Vester Gade, according to information provided by V.I. Police Department Director of Communications Glen Dratte.
According to the VIPD, the ShotSpotter Detection System notified 911 at approximately 2:17 p.m. Friday of multiple gunshots fired in the area of Vester Gade on St. Thomas. Shortly afterward, a concerned citizen contacted 911 and reported that a male victim had sustained injuries.
VIPD units responded to the scene and found a responsive male who appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
The victim was transported by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where medical personnel performed lifesaving measures. Despite those efforts, he later died from his injuries.
The victim was identified by his next of kin as 15-year-old Tre’Vante Etienne. Mr. Dratte extended condolences to the family on behalf of the department.
The VIPD has not identified a suspect or reported an arrest in the case.
